Civic Collector
hello.i have a question about debt collectors and civic court ,please inside?
my friend own some money to bank(it’s above 10k),collectors calling him every day,but he didnt pick up the phone.Collectors try to call his family,and they said they gonna open a case and start civic court on my friend.
What he need to do in this situation???
Can they send him to a jail?(i think no)

You can’t go to jail in the USA over debt.
I’m not making excuses for debt collectors, but if the situation were reversed, I bet your friend would be making some aggressive phone calls too to get his money.
Is this defaulted credit card debt and how old is the debt? If the debt is defaulted credit card debt, he needs to make a settlement agreement. If the debt is still with the original creditor/bank, offer 50%….if it’s with a debt collector, offer 25% and go from there.
* Get all terms of any settlement deal you reach with debt collectors IN WRITING BEFORE you give them your money. Make multiple copies of your settlement letter and keep in a safe place. Never accept settlement deals over the phone without following up with a written agreement…The debt collectors will deny that any settlement was ever made once they get your “settlement” money and will come back demanding more money.
