FASHION 911!! My daughter goes to a "semi-formal" dance for homecoming. What is the dress code for this?

I'ma fan fashion. I have no idea what to buy her to wear. She continues to choose the style of dance, floor length dresses. I thought a "street" in length, would more appropriate. What type of clothing is taken to a "semi-formal" dance? It's normal "Sunday's Best" suited for this role?

My daughter (17) says that if she is on the homecoming court, then the type dance dresses are appropriate. If not then a better dress nice, regular, but some fantasy or Sunday is best for dancing. She said that in his school, including girls in the back court in exchange for something less extravagant, more comfortable when go to the dance. Hope this helps!
