Any pointers on buying a "mini-classic"?

Hello, I have always believed that one of the classic mini car like a second Sunday /. A friend of mine had one a few years ago and had the opportunity to drive acouple times and loved it. Can anyone recommend websites or books that contain good information about purchasing one. I checked the prices, which vary from around £ 1000 to £ 5000, I'm looking to spend about 2k, but not sure that the model year would be better, or to avoid. When I did my research and found a suitable car was going to take over the mechanical services my existing car to check to make sure that more is not a lemon!
